The Ensemble Palamento originated from the desire to discover the instrumental practices of the Middle Ages in a philological way. Francesco Gibellini, the founder of the ensemble, has also created the workshop Antiqui Instromenti with the aim of making copies of musical instruments from the Middle Ages to the Baroque time using a philological approach, based on the iconographic sources and essays of that time. The research aimed at the reconstruction of the instruments is followed by the research on their correct use.
Francesco Gibellini graduated brilliantly in trumpet in 2008 at the “A.Boito” Conservatory in Parma. In 2011 he achieved a Master's Degree in trumpet with honors, presenting a thesis on the 17th-century essays concerning natural trumpet. He is also specialized in playing the cornetto, the natural trumpet and historical trumpets of the 19th century. He regularly collaborates with orchestras such as Orchestra Sinfonica “A.Toscanini”, Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma, Virtuosi Italiani. He plays as a soloist and in chamber music groups with a repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to contemporary music. With regard to ancient music played on period instruments, he collaborated with Zefiro Ensemble, Ensemble “Gambe di Legno”, Ensemble Il Falcone, Ensemble La Lauzeta.
Clara Fanticini always combined the study of modern violin (Master's Degree with honors at the Conservatory of Parma) with the passion for its a braccio ancestors such as baroque and classical violin and medieval vielle. Besides this philological approach, she also studied contemporary music, playing as a soloist in important Festivals also together with international artists. She teaches violin and chamber music in two musicschools and gives concert-lessons for listeners ranging from the age of 3 to elderly people.
Flavio Spotti supports his artistic education on cultural heritage (he graduated as a Restorer of Mural Paintings at the Scuola Regionale per la Valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali in Botticino BS) with his musical studies, specializing in historical and ethnic percussion.
He studied the Indian Tabla under the guidance of Arup Kanti Das and historical percussions with Pedro Estevan. He deepened the study of the technique of the frame drum with Michael Metzler and Glen Velez and followed courses of zarb (tomback) with the Iranian Maestro Bijan Chemiranilo at the Cini Foundation in Venice. He also created shows with Armenian music and medieval music collaborating with international artists for important Italian and European institutions and festivals.
