I Madrigalisti Estensi

Ensemble on Period Instruments

I Madrigalisti Estensi has been founded in 2016 by Michele Gaddi. The ensemble specializes in the historically informed performance of the repertoire between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with a particular eye to the madrigal and composers active in Modena in the ancient Duchy of Este. In 2017 in Mantua they participated in a masterclass held by Emma Kirkby on the Monteverdian repertoire. Since their foundation, the Madrigalisti Estensi created various musical projects, dealing with important pages such as the "Vespro della Beata Vergine", "Il Ballo delle Ingrate" and the "Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda" by Claudio Monteverdi and the Missa "Hercules Dux Ferrariae" by Josquin Desprez. Since 2016, the Madrigalisti Estensi have been invited by festivals such as ResoNet Festival, Armoniosamente and Modena Organ Festival. In 2019 they took part in the initiatives of the Early Music Day promoted by the REMA - Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne and performed in the Fringe of the Oude-Muziek Festival in Utrecht. In the same year they performed the first recording of "Vespro per San Contardo d'Este" by Giovanni Battista Vitali, released in July 2021 for the label NovAntiqua Records, and recorded the "Oratorio della Settimana Santa" by Luigi Rossi together with the Ensemble BariAntiquA directed by Diego Cantalupi. In 2020 they took part in the opera season of the Teatro Comunale di Modena in Henry Purcell’s "Dido and Aeneas". In 2021 they performed during the Opera Festival organized by the Fondazione del Teatro Grande di Brescia.
