"Fantasia" to be Featured on Radio 3 Rai's "Primo Movimento"
NovAntiqua Records' album "Fantasia," performed by pianist Marina Pellegrino, will be presented on Radio 3 Rai's "Primo Movimento" program on June 12, 2025, at 9:30 AM.
Over the past few months, Radio 3 Rai has dedicated ample airtime to our recent releases, and we humbly acknowledge that the opportunity to be featured on such a prestigious station is a testament to the dedication and passion that we pour into our work.
"Fantasia" explores the solo piano works of Nino Rota, the Italian composer best known for his film scores including "Il Padrino" and "La dolce vita." The album focuses on lesser-known pieces from Rota's catalog, offering insight into his broader compositional range beyond his celebrated cinematic work.
The recording includes four key works spanning Rota's career:
15 Preludes (1964): A collection of preludes demonstrating the composer's distinctive harmonic language and melodic style.
Ippolito Gioca (1930): An early composition showcasing Rota's characteristic playfulness and rhythmic invention.
7 Pezzi Difficili per Bambini (1971): A set of pieces originally written for young pianists, notable for their technical challenges despite their pedagogical intent.
Fantasia in Sol (1944-1945): A substantial work from Rota's mid-career period, displaying his lyrical and structural sophistication.
Marina Pellegrino's interpretations aim to make these works accessible to contemporary audiences while respecting their original character. The album contributes to the growing recognition of Rota's concert music, which has often been overshadowed by his film work.
