Hermine Horiot & Giovanni Bellini on La Stanza della Musica
Following a tour across France throughout April, cellist Hermine Horiot and theorbist Giovanni Bellini were invited to present their album Consobrinae on La Stanza della Musica, the late-night music programme broadcast on RAI Radio 3 on 29 April at 10.30pm.
The conversation offered a chance to introduce Italian audiences to a project built around an unusual pairing. Consobrinae — Latin for "cousins" — takes its name from the relationship the duo perceives between their two instruments: the cello and the theorbo share a world, a period, and a certain quality of sound, yet each brings its own distinct character. The programme moves between France and Italy, across the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, weaving solo and duo pieces together — including several world premiere recordings — into what Horiot and Bellini describe as a kind of musical tapestry.
La Stanza della Musica is one of the few spaces on Italian public radio where classical music is given room to breathe — where an album like Consobrinae can be heard not as a curiosity but as exactly what it is: a carefully considered artistic statement.
That the programme followed a sustained touring presence in France adds something: it signals that this project is travelling, finding its audience, building momentum naturally.
