A rare collection of Cantatas for low voice and Basso Continuo from Bologna shows how the italian city was a important centre of development and experimentation on the cantata form. The composers included in this recording are among the best known at that time and Gabriele Lombardi's rendition of this kind of very elevated form of music is outstanding. In the middle of the program of this CD there is a solo Cello Sonata by Domenico Gabrielli to show how the experimentation of new forms in the vocal as well as in the instrumental music has been experimented by these composers.
