Thomas Vincent (c. 1723–1798) was one of the leading English oboists and composers of the 18th century. As a student of the renowned Italian oboist and composer Giuseppe Sammartini—often referred to as "the greatest oboist in Europe" (Lance, 1977). Vincent inherited a deep tradition of Italiana style, and he became a distinguished figure in London's musical scene. Vincent's close association with Sammartini, as well as his collaborations with other prominent Italian musicians, helped him rise to prominence, allowing him to perform on some of the most prestigious stages of his time, including the famous Bach-Abel concerts, which were among the highlights of 18th-century London's musical life.
