Time sculptures is a reflection on some of the great themes of life, seen from their darkest side. Both in concept and in structural form, this work draws freely on Marguerite Yourcenar’s essay That Mighty Sculptor, Time. That book is organised as a collection of individual episodes, conceived at different times and set in different eras – where the overall moral sense lies precisely in the way the episodes are placed side by side, held together by a common thread. This album works in much the same way: it is made up of pieces written in different periods, often stylistically very distant from one another; yet they are united by one message, which this seemingly disjointed whole seeks to carry forward — that of a time which, flowing inexorably onward, teaches us to learn "the great lesson of things that pass". It teaches us this by leading us through the great questions that have always hovered over the existence of every individual, unscathed by the passing of the centuries.
In this sense, the use of material by great musicians of the past carries symbolic value: it stands for the unresolved dilemma of certain great thematic areas, present in the society of past centuries just as much as in today’s: power, love, religion, the impossibility of communication.

---------------------------
