Vernici (2024) for flute, clarinet, trombone, percussion, violin, cello and double bass
“Vernici” is a piece for seven instruments, divided into four distinct but continuously linked movements, each inspired by a particular color tone and the images it evokes.
I. “Luteo”. The movement takes its name from its bright yellow color, resembling gold or sunlight. Musically, it is characterized by an immediately luminous, almost dazzling atmosphere with a clear but accumulating energy.
II. “Falbo”. This movement is inspired by a paler, earthier yellow, similar to the color of ripe wheat. It has a more turbid tone, with a musical texture that recalls articulation and internal definition, and is immediately changeable.
III. “Vaiato”. The name of the movement comes from a bluish-grey color, often associated with a foggy or melancholic atmosphere. The music becomes darker and more complex, with a sound texture that expresses restlessness and mystery.
IV. “Neralbo”. The last movement combines the idea of black and albedo, a black that retains a luminous quality. It has a contrast between darkness and light, with moments of dramatic intensity alternating with flashes of brightness.
In “Vernici” the use of color is descriptive, symbolic, and material, inviting the listener to reflect on the connections between visual and auditory perception. Each movement offers a synesthetic journey in which the music becomes the vehicle of a multisensory experience.
